The Century Tree design begins at the exterior entrance of the Junior High School with a series of concentric circles in alternating colors of concrete illustrating the growth rings of a one-hundred-year old tree. As the design moves indoors, a pie-shaped slice of the tree’s growth rings are visible in the student commons floor. Using the growth rings as a time-line, 202 unique bronze castings depicting events of the 20th Century are inlaid into the concrete. The artists created the images based on written suggestions from Redmond Junior High School students.
