Making Sand Molds Making to Surf Music

Judith is working at the machine that is the heart of the Caldwell Sculpture Studio practice, a vintage Palmer 50-pound-per-minute continuous sand mixer, rebuilt and modified for the Furan binder system used to make the molds. She is ramming a mold for the Hesutin Waterfall, a water feature that took 40 bronze castings to make, which means she rammed at least eighty mold sections. The surf music has a great rhythm for this work, and garnered a “like” from a surf shop in New Zealand when it appeared on Instagram!
